Before the park, before the prison, before the screams....there was the Lake. And it was never just water.
Origin: The First Settlers
In the mid 1800's, settlers built their quiet township on the shores of an untouched lake. The forest was thick, the land fertile, and the water--still, cold, endless. But the lake wasn't natural. It had no inlet. No outlet. No known bottom. Just reflection.
Desperate for survival, the townsfolk drank from it. Bathed in it. Cooked with it. Prayed beside it. They didn't know the truth. They were swallowing something far older than sin.
The Water Was Alive
The water was cursed (or something within it was). An ancient force, buried beneath the surface. It didn't infect the body the way poison or bacteria does. It twisted the soul. At first, symptoms seemed like madness: Night terrors, hallucinations, voices from the trees, black veins beneath the skin.
Then came the transformation. Feral instincts, bloodlust, religious mania. The lake fed on fear and gave back something inhuman.
